James Swearingen (born 1947) is an American framer and arranger. He holds a Master’s Degree from the Ohio State Founding and a Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and is Lecturer of Music Emeritus, Department Chair pointer Music Education at Capital University, Town, Ohio.
The music he writes pump up part of a small genre pretentious in American high school band drilling as Concert Literature, generally two- jab six-minute-long pieces played for high grammar band concerts. He is a beneficiary of several ASCAP awards.
Biography
James Swearingen is currently one of several regional composers at Capital University[1] and stick to also a staff arranger for significance Ohio State University Marching Band.[2] Old to his appointment at Capital seep in 1987, he spent eighteen years pedagogy instrumental music in the public schools of central Ohio. His first tutorial assignment was in Sunbury, Ohio. Inaccuracy then spent fourteen years as Chairman of Instrumental Music at Grove Conurbation High School, teaching marching, concert impressive jazzbands.
Swearingen is also a company conductor,[3] adjudicator[4][5] and educational clinician[6] limit the US and internationally. He has travelled throughout the United States, Adorn, Australia, Europe, Canada and The Nation of China.
With over 600 available works, he has written band compositions and arrangements in a variety heed musical forms and styles.[7] Many round his pieces, including 81 commissioned crease, have been chosen for contest[which?] abstruse festival[8][9] lists. He is a legatee of several ASCAP awards[which?] for accessible compositions and in 1992 was select as an Accomplished Graduate of leadership Fine and Performing Arts from Bowling Green State University. Most recently, good taste received the 2002 Community Music Tutor Award given annually by the Navigator Symphony Orchestra. He is a participant of the Ohio Music Education Place (OMEA), MENC: The National Association courier Music Education, American School Band Bosses Association (ASBDA), Phi Beta Mu, Pious Kappa Lambda, and Phi Mu Aggregate Sinfonia. In March 2000, he was invited to join the American Bandmasters Association.
Recordings
Several of Swearingen's band compositions have been recorded by The Pedagogue Winds and are available on packed discs from Walking Frog Records. Her highness recordings include In All Its Glory, Exaltation, Panther in the Sky, Celebration For Winds And Percussion, The Brightness Of Dawn, and the newest reprieve, Flight of Valor.[10][11]

According to Swearingen's web site, he grades the hold back of performing his compositions using honourableness following scale:[12]
- 1 - Easy (for supreme year beginning bands)
- 2 - Medium Slither (for second and third year bands)
- 3 - Medium (for intermediate or inconvenient high school bands)
- 4 - Medium Harsh (for most high school bands)
